SAFE TORQUE OFF (STO) FUNCTION
Fanuc Manual
B-65412EN.
The operator may require
to attach or remove the work piece in the machining area while the protection
door is open. To ensure this work can be performed safely, it is necessary to
place the machine tool in the emergency stop state and cut off the power to the
feed axes or a device such as a magnetic contactor can be installed between the
servo amplifier and servo motor to cut off the power automatically.
ai-B
amplifier supports the STO function in compliance with IEC61800-5-2, making it
possible to safely cut off power of servo axes. By inputting two external
interception signals (STO-A and STO-B) to the servo amplifier, the PWM signals
are turned off in the servo amplifier. The off status of the PWM signals is
monitored in the servo amplifier and the status monitor signal (STO-FB) is
output. The power to the servo amplifier can be cut off safely by monitoring the
STO-A, STO-B, and STO-FB signals.
STO signals are available on JX8 connectors of Fanuc A06B-6240 series servo amplifiers.
Consult your machine's electrical wiring diagram for exact setup for your particular machine.
